Apple did it! The company’s App Store has reached 10 billion application downloads since its iPhone release in 2007.
This number was achieved on Saturday. By the way, along with 10 billion app downloads Apple can boast getting $6 billion quarterly net profit.
Apple thanked its iPhone and iPad customers ten billion times for getting the company there. This announcement is published on its site.
As you might remember, Apple promised to give a $10,000 iTunes gift card to the 10 billionth user to download an application from the App Store.
The winner is announced. It’s Gail Davis from the United Kingdom. This girl has become the lucky winner for downloading free game called Paper Glider.
In the run up to this amazing date, Apple published the draws of all-time app bestsellers, including free and paid applications for the iPad. Both lists will appear on iPads House this week. For now we’ll just say that you won’t be surprised to see Angry Birds in there. Still some of the applications might amaze you.
The App Store now has more than 350,000 applications developed for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch owners in 90 countries across the globe. About 60,000 applications are native iPad apps.
iDevice users can select applications in 20 categories, such as games, books, health, news, etc.
While the company is celebrating its triumph, Steve Jobs decides to take a health vacation. Of course, he will continue to work behind the scenes. But for now, the new acting CEO becomes Tim Cook.
He’ll guide the ship in 2011 when Apple plans to release its second generation iPad 2 and the new iPhone 5.
