The iPad Vs PC Battle : Steve Ballmer’s Angle

06 Jun 2010 | News |

There is a proverb that says everything has its own place in this world and its best that they should be in their own place, not to occupy other’s, which is significantly true for the Apple iPad.

First everyone thought it can’t be used regularly as a third device as a PC or Mobile replacement and now it made its own place and own market after launching. And the market is growing so rapidly that all the major device manufacturers can’t hold themselves back to make an iPad like device of their own.

But despite having the usability of Mobile & PC partially it’s still far away to replace any of these, and yet known about in the future whether it can replace or not because it can do many things any PC can do, and it can do them pretty efficiently and elegantly, but when it comes to matter of power and capability, iPad lacks in both from even a very low end Netbook.

The argument lies there, if and when it can completely replace a PC or Notebook to do everything in that what is possible there.

Microsoft current CEO, Steve Ballmer added his valuable comments in this regard. He said that PC has an underlying architecture that is being upgraded day by day to enable it for doing mammoth tasks in a short period of time, and in that aspect iPad still stands as a preliminary device that can only be used as a third alternate device, never a replacer.

He also added that apart from USA or UK only a few people have the luxury to buy both PC and iPad. Moreover PC or Notebook can do anything possible in iPad apart from some fancy animations, but no iPad has the power or capability to do everything any Netbook can do, they fall short in processing power or storage capacity.

Hence while choosing between iPad and PC for any user, PC still beats iPad by a long lap. Besides iPad is still yet to get any full fledged Operating System that can be compared with Windows or MAC OS X.

The current buyers of iPad use the device as entertainment and fun, Steve Ballmer added, but when it comes to the point of serious official work it may fail to deliver the experience, and he quoted how a guy in a meeting tried to take notes in his iPad which was enjoyable and fun, but slowed the pace of the meeting.

But for the release of iPad the advancement of PC proceeded with superior speed and new enhanced models are in the process of launching that would increase the usability of the computers.

This may be the good effect of iPad over the PC which helped in speeding up the development process. And may be in the near future, PC will be able to deliver the portability of iPad but only time will tell if iPad will be capable of providing the power and speed of a PC.
