Great news from Asia: Singapore-based mobile operator M1 has officially confirmed that it’s planning to offer special service packs made especially for the iPad supporting Wi-Fi and 3G technologies, but no earlier than Apple decides to launch the product in Singapore, of course.
The person who made this promise was the spokesman of M1, Chua Swee Kiat, saying that the company will offer dedicated iPad service plans within a few weeks. However, the brief report by Kiat did not include any exact info about the release dates or what those service packs will actually include.
More than 3,000,000 iPads have been sold by Apple following the official U.S. release of the device on April 3rd, 2010. Last month the company started selling the iPad in France, Japan and Australia and is planning to extend its availability to the Netherlands, Ireland and Singapore later in July.
In spite of the fact that iPad is still officially on the way to Singapore, some local retailers have already started offering the 16Gb Wi-Fi+3G model at a price of about 870 US dollars quite some time ago.
At the moment the iPad is mostly available from Apple outlets. The subscription to a data plan with access to Internet via 3G is a must for a buyer.
M1 have refused to provide more detailed info related to its coming service packs for the iPad users upon direct contact though. Last year M1 were the second to start shipping iPhone to Singapore.
