We propose 10 Smart iPad User Guide that will make you a jedi armed with an iPad instead of a lightsaber: organize your apps, save passwords and links in Safari browser, create shortcuts to your favourite websites, switch to mute your iPad if you urgently need it or arrange the sound volume.
We have checked and tried these iPad hints for you and now you will be able to boast of your competence once your friends need your advice concerning their iPads. Should you have any other little secrets about the tablet feel free to share them in the comments below.
1. How to open Safari links in a new window
Safari browser lets you open any link in a new window thus you will be able to load a number of webpages at the same time and have the current page open. It is not exactly the same as tabbed browsing as there are no Safari tabs but it is very similar to it.
So, to get the Safarilink loaded in a new window do not simply tap the link that won’t do any good. In this case all you need to do is pressing and holding it till you see an option appear asking you to Open in New Page. Just choose it.
Now you have several pages open at once. You might wonder what to do next and how to switch between them. Have a look at the top of your browser and you will notice an icon which is like two pages or boxes that intersect. Should you tap this icon and below you will see each and every page you have opened organized in a graphic. Herefrom to have any page closed just tap an X button.
2. AutoFill is a good thing in Safari
If you are not the only one to use your iPad and boundlessly trust all the other people using it save time with the AutoFill option as it will remember your usernames and passwords automatically.
Make sure you save your details in Contacts to activate the AutoFill option, thereafter go to Settings, select Safari, choose AutoFill to switch both of them to On. Finally, you need to open My Info field and choose your file from Contacts.
3. Silence your iPad in 2 seconds
If it so happens that you need to silence your tablet straight away, this iPad guide will help you to do so. You can do it quickly through pressing the down volume button for no longer than two seconds thus bringing the volume down to zero. Unfortunately, the mute option is not provided but this can be a solution.
4. What Home button can offer you?
Take a look at the Home button of your iPad. You might already know that if you tap it once it will lead you to the homepage of yours. But there are other worthy functions as well that may appear quite handy.
To get to know these functions, set forth to Settings, where you will choose General and press Home button next. Now you can decide on the function to be implemented by double clicking on the Home key – make it accessing the iPod or going to Spotlight Search.
You can switch iPod Controls to On as well right here in Settings. It will let you listen to your music no matter in what app or program you are at the moment. To access music controls you will need to double tap the Home button.
5. Let your Home Screen have shortcuts to your favourite websites
Adding shortcuts to the sites you like is possible directly from the home screen though there is no need to do it for Mashable due to a free iPad app.
If you are now at the webpage you would like to have a shortcut to just find the + sign at the very top of the page, press it and choose Add to Home Screen after that. You will see how convenient it is now you have an icon tapping which results in instant access to the sites popular with you.
6. iBooks can be even more easier to use
There is hardly any person who never played with the nice swipe-to-turn function of the iBooks app. It does not, however, seem that convenient if you intend to read more than just a couple of pages of the books swiping might get on your nerves after the first hundred swipes.
If you are fed up with swipes change iBooks settings in such a way so that you could go to the next page by tapping the margin on the left.
If it is what you opt for, go to Settings, tap iBooks in the Apps section and press Tap Left Margin. Make certain that Next Page is ticked as this is going to change its default option so that it could take you to the next page, not the previous one.
7. Switch iPod sound check on
We bet it irritates you greatly when you start listening to music and all the songs have different volume levels. You will either strain yourself to hear at least a sound or rush to your tablet to turn it down. Actually, there is a way out.
To get the volume levels adjusted go to Settings and choose iPod, then make sure Sound Check is switched to On.
But don’t leave at once have a look at the EQ menu. Keep it in mind that this menu can help you with a number of various sound options according to the style of the music you will listen to. Also, regulating sound volumes for speech is possible here which is a nice thing when it comes to audio-books or podcasts.
8. The Dock can hold 6 apps, haven’t you known this?
You can fight the mess and have a quick access to the most frequently used items before November brings iOS4.2 along with the folders we are so waiting for.
You have 11 pages at your disposal to organize your iPad apps the way it is convenient for you. Even with no opportunity to create folders available you can, for instance, drag and drop your games to fill the whole page and make it a page with games only.
Note that the dock can hold no less than six apps so just add two more apps to those ones which are there in a standard layout. Press the app’s icon till it rocks and drag it to the dock it will make the icons be closer and you will have more apps on the screen.
9. Space Bar has a nice trick to show you
Spacebar also has a trick up its sleeve. The number of spaces it creates depends on how many fingers touch it one finger for one space, three fingers for three spaces, etc. Alas, you are limited here by Mother Nature in the number of fingers you can simultaneously press to the spacebar.
You will find this trick if not extremely useful then rather interesting multi-touch display has the biggest potential for brand new functions.
10. Download the iPad User Guide eBook
If you feel like you would read the official Apple iPad User Guide then you can do it now just download it as an e-Book.
You can do it for free from the iBooks store where you will need to search for iPad and will have it to be accessed offline. So next time you will have a question about your tablet but no connection to the Internet you will look for the answer there.
