While some American iPhone 4S users have discovered a fantastic friend in Siri, Apple has yet to sort out the language barriers for people all over the world.
Even in English-speaking countries, Siri on iPad 2 often challenges with specific accents and dialects, leaving many users disappointed, and in many cases, incensed. Perhaps never more clearly has this disappointment been shown than in this rather enjoyable mock Scottish Siri commercial advertisement.
A brash Scotsman conforms to numerous stereotypes in a sketch by which he gets in to a disagreement with Siri, which after a short amount of berating, finally ends up with the iPhone being broke against a wall – a situation we often find ourselves contemplating from time to time.
As humorous as this Scottish Siri commercial advertisement might be (especially for English people), it will highlight a more truly serious debate.
Why, having wasted a lot of time making its name as a way to obtain premium, polished items, did Apple launch (and advertise) iPhone 4S Siri world wide, knowing most areas outside the US wouldn’t be able to utilize it?
At this time, many non-English speaking nations can’t use Siri on iPad by using paid or free Siri Proxy, and even people who can speak the lingo find themselves achieved with a rather frustrating accent barrier. At this point in time, to experience full functionality of Siri Assistant, many need to put on an American accent, which usually does takes some of the shine off a product which has otherwise been significant.
This isn’t the first time Siri has been unknowingly drafted in to a heated discussion, and we doubt it will be the last.
