The national book seller Barnes & Noble has announced the decrease in its price of sin month old Nook e-reader to $199 from a hopping $259. They have introduced a new version of the device which can get connected to the Internet through Wi-Fi networks at a price of only $149.

Nobody wants to lag behind in the competition and Amazon.com has quickly responded by cutting down the price of its popular Kindle e-reader to $189 from $259. The manufacturers of e-readers were forced to decrease the price as they were facing a great threat from Apple’s iPad.

Though Apple iPad is more expensive than the e-readers, but it comes with a lot of other functions with a wonderful colorful display, which is far better than the monochrome, static screen of the e-reader.

Expert analysts feel that price of e-readers is going to fall further as there is an overall decline in the cost of components and an increase in profitability of the e-books themselves. It can be noted that five to six big major American publishers has agreed with Apple to change the agency sales model.

Steven P. Jobs, Chief executive of Apple has announced that iPad owners have downloaded more than five million e-books during the last two months. People are more willing to read e-books on the tablet PC as it has got a brighter LCD screen.
