Meet a new $300 Android Tablet Velocity Cruz with 7-Inch Display

The iPad hasn’t had any serious rivals worth speaking of so far. The situation, however, may change drastically as soon as the Android and WebOS tablets have begun to load in bulk which is expected in a short time. A tablet with a wide-screen (16:9) and Google’s Android OS will be launched in Velocity Micro’s Cruz model range coming among the first and costing just $300.

New-Velocity-Cruz-vs-iPad

The Cruz coming after unimpressive Archos 7 characterized by undercapacity may be the first Android tablet you might think of purchasing in good earnest. Velocity Micro known first of all perhaps for its top-grade gaming PCs which also makes notebooks and desktops produces this tablet.

The $200 e-reader and the $150 drop-resistant model claimed «kid-friendly» accompany the touch-screen Cruz.

The Cruz has 802.11n Wi-Fi, 4-GB storage (extendible with the help of SD-card, an 8-GB card included in the package), a small 7-inch screen with 800 x480 pixels, an accelerometer, a battery-life of seven hours and (which is too good to be true) a USB port. This makes the Cruz look like a younger brother of an iPad.

The Cruz holds up better traditions of a tablet and is in essence a piece of screen. Its software will be crucial to its success, since Apple’s position has been advantageous in this respect, as well as its battery life. Those who consider the iPad to be too big will found the 7-inch screen very convenient, the 16:9 proportion, however, seems a bit strange for portrait orientation.

The other Velocity Micro’s alternatives will perplex the customers. The $200 e-reader with a ratio of 4:3 is available for $100 less. But it is basically the same tablet having no built-in memory and only 2-GB card in the package, 802.11g Wi-Fi, which is slower, and a 800 x 600 display. But though it has more pixels, it is not capacitive.

In six weeks on September 1 the tablets will ship and no sooner than they are obtainable we will be able to check out as to how they come up to the iPad.
