iOS developer and hacker @pimskeks, who works with Chronic-Dev, has not too long ago tweeted that the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S Absinthe jailbreak is currently available to download for Linux.
This simply means if you now operate a form of the Linux operating system on your desktop or laptop computer it is simple to Jailbreak your iPad 2 or iPone 4S Untethered running the iOS 5.0 (iPhone 4S only) or even iOS 5.0.1 firmware utilizing the newest version of Absinthe (v0.3) for Linux.
@pimskeks: “Linux version (x86/x86_64) of #Absinthe #A5 #jailbreak is done! Greenpoison.com/?p=173”
Follow this guide to successfully jailbreak your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S with Absinthe o.3 on Linux:
Step # 1: You should install the libimobiledevice package on your Linux system in order Linux to communicate with all iOS devices such as iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
To install the package on Ubuntu just do the following:
- Type
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pmcenery/ppa
in your terminal and continue with installations and simply ignore any warnings that you might encounter.
- Next type
sudo apt-get update
- Go to the Ubuntu software center and look for libimobiledevice, and install libimobiledevice-utils.
- If asked for a reboot, continue with it and Linux will start to recognize your device then.
Step # 2: Download Absinthe v0.3 and then unpack it on the desktop computer.
Step # 3: Simply click absinthe.x86 or perhaps on absinthex86_64 if on a 32-bit machine or maybe on a 64-bit machine respectively.
Step # 4: At this point make sure you have your device powered on and when done, let Absinthe find your iPad or iPhone and proceed on by clicking the jailbreak button.
Step # 5: Next, let Absinthe do the rest and all you should insure is that the process completes with no interruption. Upon completion you’ll see Absinthe icon on your Home screen. Start it to go to finish the jailbreak.
Step # 6: Your iDevice will reboot upon the completion and when complete you’ll see the Cydia icon on the desktop.
That’s all you have to do if you’re using Linux. But if you still have any problems then you can leave a comment below.
