Sales numbers and statistics are slowing coming in people and Apple iPhone dominated in American smartphone market. Just about yesterday AT&T reported in a press release that previous quarter was their best one in smartphone sales and even quarterly income.
In the press release that was published on AT&T’s official internet site US’s biggest company sold over 9.4 million smartphone and broke just about all previous records. And about 7.6 million smartphones sold by AT&T were iPhones. This number is incredible, a few days ago Verizon released their sales results and about 50% of smartphones sold by Verizon were iPhones.
Both Android and iPhone device sales set records. During the three months, over 7.6 million iPhones were activated, a large number of which were iPhone 4S, which went on sale Oct. 14, and more than twice as many Android smartphones were sold compared to the 4th quarter last year. iPhone sales were helped by an excellent customer experience, with AT&T providing download speeds up to three-times faster than on other U.S. carriers’ networks.
Not just Apple but AT&T also had their most beneficial quarter in the past and the credit goes to the new iPhone 4S. When Apple released iPhone 4S in October in 2011 many specialists and analysts thought that it will not do good in the market simply because of its factor as iPhone 4, however the results are opposite. Apple sold more than 37 million iPhones and iPhone 4S is a leader of sales, contributing 90% in total number.
Even though Apple did not release a breakdown of the iPhone sales but Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP)‘s customer study show that iPhone 4S is definitely the most popular iPhone among people. iPhone 4S sales were greater than any other iPhone model after its release on October 14th. Keep in mind that Apple is still shipping iPhone 3GS model as well as a 8GB version of iPhone 4.
Here is a breakdown of Apple’s iPhone sales from last three months:
- iPhone 4S made up 89% of total iPhone sales
- 21% of those 89% were 64 GB, 34% were 32 GB and 45% were 16 GB
- 19% of most iPhone buyers upgraded from the iPhone 4
- 42% of iPhone buyers broke current company contracts in order to get the new iPhone 4S
- 19% of these iPhone 4S buyers sold their old iPhone in the secondary market
