iPad: Storm in a Teacup?

The iPad, which was launched by Apple relatively recently, in a fanfare of publicity, has had some mixed reviews in the business world.
It has been dismissed by some as merely a toy which can be no competition to the computer. However, the critics who are now reacting negatively to the iPad, might well be those who reacted in the same way to the iPhone when it was first launched three years ago. The iPhone is now enjoying success as a smartphone for use in the business sector. This success is mainly due to the range of business apps that Apple has for it.
The iPad, on the other hand, doesn’t have any real purpose for the business person.
The iPhone is a phone, and a phone is indispensable to a business person and entrepreneur.
The iPad doesn’t, at the moment, have any niche to fill in the business sector. Currently it doesn’t have any Apple apps designed specifically for it and is only able to run those originally created for the iPhone. Because of this, they are not as effective as when run on the iPhone. If you have an iPhone, there’s no real reason to buy an iPad for business use.
Other disadvantages of the iPad are that it is somewhat cumbersome and not as east to carry around as the iPhone. It is in the same category as a laptop, and one of these would be much more useful to have with you than an iPad.
The iPad doesn’t have a USB port, so business people cannot use all the hardware extensions they frequently need to use with one.
People will, doubtless, buy these new gadgets in their thousands, as the interest in new technology is great, as is the desire to own the latest technological device. This is just a salutary word to the business person. The iPad offers a lot less than your laptop, so if you buy the iPad, you probably won’t be able to claim that it’s essential for your business.
