The sales of the iPad have officially started in Ireland yesterday. The story with the first day of the official sales repeats again: just like in any other country where the iPad was released before, there were huge queues in front of Irish Apple Stores this morning.
The lucky person standing first in the line to the CompuB store in Dublin was Richard Arnold, from Clonskeagh, who arrived to the front door of the shop around 6 am. He admitted he was very surprised by the fact that there were no people there he knew that in England people were queuing for days, so he was expecting the same in Dublin.
Richard was looking forward to getting himself the 32GB 3G iPad that he was planning to give to his mother.
There were prospective buyers who had to withstand certain hardships in order to fund their iPad purchases. Jack Gleeson from Finglas, for instance, admitted he had to sell his collection of 600 CDs to Gamestop, cash the credit by buying a laptop and then sell the new laptop at a much lower price to get some of the 600 he needed in order to buy the iPad. He said he was planning on using the iPad as an entertainment and Internet-browsing device and was pretty sure that the device would replace the laptop in the short run.
Before the official release of the iPad, Irish Apple Fans had to ride all the way to Northern Ireland to buy the device. Alternatively, they could purchase one from certain sources in the U.S.
The iPad, which is Apple’s latest screen-touch tablet computer, was first shown to the public in January 2010. It can access the Internet via Wi-Fi or 3G, uses the software identical to that in iPhone but sports a larger screen and more advanced features.
The cheapest iPad model available from Apple Stores and the numerous authorized Apple resellers costs 499.
The sales of the iPad have also been officially started today in a bunch of other countries, including Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Mexico, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore.
The iPad is mostly regarded as a tablet intended for entertainment: browsing Web, reading eBooks, playing games and watching movies. Steve Jobs, however, advised the iPad users not to underestimate the new device’s functionality and said that it gave birth to a whole new class of computers.
We can already tell for sure that the iPad is outstandingly popular among consumers, and large pre-orders and super-long queues outside of the Apple Stores all around the world prove this statement well. The sales of the device were officially launched in the U.S. on April 3rd since that day Apple has already sold well over 3,000,000 iPads.
Basically, there are three main models of the iPad 16GB, 32GB and 64GB ones. Each can have Wi-Fi and 3G or, alternatively, Wi-Fi only. The cheapest model is 16GB with Wi-Fi (499). If you want to own the most expensive 64GB model with Wi-Fi and 3G, you will need to pay 799. See other iPad Prices.
