iPad In Churches, Convenience And Functionality

28 Oct 2011 | News |

Attending Sunday school is not really something that people do regularly nowadays, but for those who are still with the tradition and are experiencing muscle cramps bringing the heavy bibles, you can actually use the iPad for convenience and functionality.

I use to hear kids saying “zombies are invading your lawn”, but now I will say that iTablets  are invading churches. iPad in churches are said to have made Sunday masses convenient and functional, or shall I say luxurious?  Reading the actual verses on the bible is really a pain on the eye since you need to adjust for those small texts, but I believe it’s still the most wholesome way to read the word of God inside the church.

Well, I don’t want to make my article sound opinionated so I will just go ahead and discuss what the iPad in churches will, and can do. Others say that incorporating the iPad in Sunday masses promotes convenience particularly for the presiding priest since he can now flip pages of the bible through the Apple tablet, without turning his back on his audience. He can always use an app that can save all his worship verses and songs, and tap on those on cue.

The Sunday mass attendees on the other hand can also find the verses that the priest is reading, more easily. There are no chances of getting lost since they can always search on the verse, and they will be on track again. Unlike the traditional Bible that gives older people a hard time reading, the iPad will allow these people to change the font size large enough for them to see. There is no need to wear those one inch thick glasses or carry a magnifying lens to read the bible inside the church (FYI, my grandfather brings a magnifying lens each time he attends the Sunday worship).

Traditional way of playing songs and hymns in churches uses large speakers attached in every corner of the building, but with the birth of the iTablet everything can change the good way. With the Apple tablet, a person can be assigned to play the songs, and adjust the volume with just a tap of his fingers. There is no need to pour tons of sweat handling those huge sound boxes. An app can also be added to produce other sounds like drums, guitars, piano, violins, and other musical instruments.

Bringing the iPad in church with you will really be convenient because of its lightweight, and functional because of what the iDevice can do. On the other, there are those who are not yet with convinced with the idea of using the Apple tablet in churches. They believe that using technology in everything we do is great, but there are also exceptions like altering the ways we do inside the church. Probably, they’re also thinking that you’ll be tempted to open unwanted websites while inside the church on the iPad.

In my opinion, it will be best if you will read the bible on your iPad at home. It’s undeniable that not all people can and want to purchase an iTablet, and using one while  in church may distract those who don’t have it. Of course you can always share your screen to your seatmate, but that will be another story.

Yet, iPad in churches will be a big evolution to how everything religious will be taught, shared, and discussed in the holy house. The church is the house of God, and I think it’s just right to share the invention of one of his creations inside his temple.
