iOS 5 Beta, that was recently jailbroken with Redsn0w, is now supported by Sn0wbreeze, a popular jailbreaking tool for Windows. Today only a tethered jailbreaking is possible, which means that you need to connect your device to a personal computer when turning it on, so that you can boot it right into a jailbroken condition.
Supported Devices:
- iPad 1
- iPod touch 3G/4
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4 [CDMA]/[GSM]
The main reason you may wish to choose Sn0wbreeze is it is actually the only jailbreaking tool for iOS 5 Beta that is offered to Windows users, and in addition, it’ll save your old baseband that allows you to unlock your smartphone using Ultrasn0w.
You should remember that the present version of Ultrasn0w unlock tool is not suitable for iOS 5 yet.
Developing Patched iOS 5 Firmware
Step 1: You have to get all the software needed in this guide: Download Sn0wbreeze 2.8b1 for Windows. Moreover, you should get the full iOS 5 Beta firmware and iTunes 10.5,that may only be legally bought if you are a registered Apple producer.
Step 2: Run Sn0wbreeze and then click the arrow, which is blue-colored. It is shown on the screenshot below:
Step 3: At this stage, Sn0wbreeze requires you to look for the .ipsw firmware file. Find the iOS 5 firmware you downloaded in step 1, and look at the example below:
Step 4: After Sn0wbreeze identified the firmware file, which sometimes takes some time, you’ll be shown another screen. You need to click “next”.
Step 5: At this point, select “Expert Mode” to use typical jailbreak with Cydia installed. After that, click “Build IPSW”.
When all the things have gone as expected, Sn0wbreeze should be developing your custom firmware. This action shouldn’t require connection, so relax and enjoy your favorite YouTube video or play the game. No matter what you do, don’t cancel the task. When the process is over, you need to look at following screen:
Step 6: At this stage, you will need to enter DFU mode, which may be done very easily by using Sn0wbreeze’s onscreen directions:
In case you entered DFU mode correctly, you must see this:
Loading iOS 5 On Your Device by Using iTunes
Step 7: Open up iTunes 10.5 Beta and choose your iOS device by simply clicking on its image on the iTunes sidebar.
Step 8: Click and hold Left “Shift” button on the keyboard and then click “Restore” button, and point the program towards the custom firmware you have just made. Do not click “Restore”, “Update” or “Check for Update” selections.
Wait until iTunes completes installing iOS 5 on your device. This action usually takes several minutes, so try to be patient. A right done message is going to be shown as soon as it’s done.
Booting Into Tethered Mode
As this is a tethered jailbreak, the iPad should stay connected to every reboot, to be able to boot right into a jailbroken state. It is best to do these steps when you turn on, or reboot your gadget.
You better use iBooty to do that.
Step 9: Start out iBooty from the desktop, run it and choose the gadget you have just jailbroken. Look at the example below:
Step 10: Press “Start” and follow the instructions as it is shown on the screen, as well as entering DFU mode one more time. After you have done it, iBooty will do all the necessary steps to boot your gadget into a jailbroken condition.
So, that is it! Hope you’re now enjoying jailbroken iOS beta on your device.
