How to Save Your SHSH Blobs

07 Feb 2011 | Jailbreak |

You want to jailbreak your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch for the first time and you aren’t familiar with mysterious SHSH blobs term.

Are you curious why you have to pay attention to saving your device’s SHSH before jailbreaking or downgrading? Let’s get things clear.

SHSH blobs is one of those iDevice terms owners would spot everywhere on the web.

Every blog which is related to jailbreaking, unlocking or both will strongly recommend you to save your device’s SHSH blobs before the firmware version updating or downgrading process.

An SHSH Blob (Signature HaSH) is a 128-byte RSA signature which verifies the firmware validity on newer Apple iOS devices as iPhone 3GS, iPod touch second generation and higher.

You should know SHSH blobs are significant for all the iOS devices which include iPad, iPhone 3G and first generation iPod touch.

This characteristic is unique for every single device and that’s why you cannot use someone else’s device to get SHSH blobs in order to downgrade the firmware version on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.

Consequently, it is highly recommended for everyone to always save the SHSH blobs of any manipulations with your iDevice. For example, if you need to perform a firmware downgrade or even upgrade your iDevice  to a newer but not the latest iOS on your gadget.

The following tutorial will guide you through all the steps of saving the SHSH blobs for your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch.

Step 1

Get TinyUmbrella for your operating system. It works on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Step 2

Run the program.

Step 3

Connect your iPad or other device to your PC via USB.

Step 4

Pick it from the window on the left hand side when TinyUmbrella recognizes your gadget.
