Google Docs Updated for iPad

17 Dec 2010 | Apps |

Google released an update of Google Docs for iDevices. Thus a desktop version of this application is now available for iPad.

However, it runs not so smooth.

Theoretically, new release means that from now on you can precisely adjust styles (changing suite, align text or insert a formula into a spreadsheet) on Apple’s tablets. Just follow the link http://docs.google.com and switch from mobile view to desktop.

A list of officially supported AirPrint network printer models is increased by 6 positions. They are HP Officejet printers:

- 6500A e-AiO;

- Pro 8500A e-AiO line;

- 6500A Plus e-AiO;

- 8500A Plus e-AiO;

- 7500A Wide Format e-AiO;

- 8500A Premium e-AiO.

Support of these devices is supposed to be realized through software update but on practice an attempt to get the latest updates on Hewlett Packard’s site ended with nothing. We can only be satisfied with Steve Jobs’ phrase now the quantity of printers supporting AirPrint model is increased to 18.

When you switch to desktop mode in Safari, most of Google Docs’ functions will be available.

You can open docs, make changes and apply almost all the formatting functions.

Nevertheless there are commands that aren’t working well. This includes double tapping on a word to choose it. Also, the selected text, if you managed to highlight it, can’t be clearly visible on your iPad’s screen when your soft keyboard is on it.

As you can see, the functionality of iPad application is not the best at the moment.

If you want stable document editor you can choose between QuickOffice, Office2 HD, Docs to Go, and a couple of other iPad applications. Some of them integrate with such services as DropBox, Apple’s iDisk and WebDAV.

It’s up to you to decide, but it’s obvious that for same money it’s better to have native applications, which aren’t fully network dependent.
