Foxconn Is to Hire 400,000 Workers

Trying to meet up the rising demand for iphone and ipad, Foxconn plans to hire additional 400,000 workers this year. The company has a plan of factories construction near the homes of employees as a part of concession in the wake of suicides.
In the past the company installed suicide prevention nets between its dormitory buildings. It also ceased customary payments worth $14,460 to family members of suicide victims.
The Company will emphasize on transferring its factories from Shenzhen to the inland provinces of Henan and Sichuan as this decision was taken after the 16 workers took suicide attemps resulting in 12 deaths.
The employees stopped 20 workers before they managed to kill themselves. According to some reports, it revealed that the workers didn’t have the permission to talk with each other. Additionally, workers complained about excessive hand twitching at night. An average worker had to complete 120 hours of overtime in a month that meant he was working for about 70 hours a week. All this is way above the limit which was set down by Apple for its suppliers.
When the news of suicide epidemic started circulating in the city, the company reduced the overtime from 120 hours to 80 hours and doubled the wage for workers at Shenzhen. The Suicide Experts talked with workforce to know more about the situation.
On August, Foxconn and employees union arranged rallies throughout Chinaand a pledge titled Treasure your life, care for your family was signed by almost 100,000 workers.
The rising demand for the new iPhone and iPad has increased the stress of workers, and global pressure compelled the company owners to respond quickly. The revenue of company is increased by 50% and is expected to stay the same in the next few years.
The global revenue statistics is $281. This is almost 8% higher than the last year’s revenue.
