Consumers Go for Expensive iPad 2 Models

According to the survey conducted by the research firm Context, 64 GB 3G iPad 2 model took one third of the overall second-gen iTablets since it was released in the European market. 16 GB WiFi-only followed on the second spot with 22 percent of overall sales.

According to analysts it appears that users and consumers of the second-gen iTablet prefers to buy their tablet from quality and feature basis, over price. Data also shows that most buyers opt for the more expensive iTablet model.

The popularity of the 64 GB 3G iPad 2 model was heightened with feature updates making them more aware of the iDevice’s storage capacity. Early adopters of the second-gen iTablet is said to be more conscious with storage capacity of the device. It has also been found that Apple is supplying more 64 GB 3G second-iTablet model on the shelves compared to other models. Customers who were craving for the said tablet tend to immediately grab one whatever model they can get from retailer stores.

Data from Context also shows that the Apple iPad has amazingly represents 80 percent of the total tablet PC sales around the world, for the first quarter of 2011. The data however, is lower by five percent compared to last year on the same period. The gradual gain of popularity of Android devices is also perceived to be a contributing factor of the iTablet’s inferior number of sales compared from last year.

Context analyst Salman Chaudry emphasized that they are not referring to Motorola Zoom, but to other less popular Android device like Iconia A500 from ACER. However, the analyst added that it’s still too early to drop conclusions when it comes to the selling trend of the iPad 2 and other tablet PCs. She said that choices of users can still change later this year, and they are waiting if consumers will soon be opting for the cheaper model of the second-gen iTablet.
