Comex: The Life and Achievements of a Famous iOS Hacker

The jailbreaking world can list the names of all well-known hackers who spend days and nights working on hacks and jailbreak utilities for iOS devices.
Comex stands out among other iOS hackers. He hardly speaks about himself, but he is doing a lot for all iPad and iPhone users by letting them get away from restrictions set by Apple on iOS devices.

His Life

Comex is a famous iOS hacker (born April 29, 1992). He used to be fond of Wii hacking before he developed Spirit and JailbreakMe 2.0 jailbreak for iOS 3.1.2, and Saffron (JailbreakMe 3.0) jailbreak tool for the iPad 2 running iOS 4.3.3.

Comex doesn’t like to speak about his personal life. Nor does he like to mention his real name on his Twitter and Github accounts and in interviews for different websites.

Little is know about his origins. But he’s been in hacking for a long while, that’s for sure.

His Achievements

Comex is best known for developing two jailbreaks: Spirit and JailbreakMe.

Spirit was released on May 1, 2010. This userland untethered jailbreak worked great on Apple gadgets running iOS 3.1.2 trough 3.2. It installed Cydia by default.

JailbreakMe is a series of utilities that jailbreak iOS devices in one step taking advantages of flaws in the Safari web browser.

The first version of JailbreakMe was presented in 2007. It worked on the iPod touch and iPhone only. The second version followed on August 1, 2010. The third version was launched on July 5, 2011. It was the first utility to jailbreak the iPad 2.
